Gordian Knot was conceived when we realized that technical hiring was broken. Traditional whiteboard tests, live coding, brain teasers, and DSA assessments weren’t helping him build the high-performing teams he needed. Whiteboard tests and live coding stressed out engineers, and brain teasers and DSA assessments were ineffective. Talent Acquisition wanted better ways to evaluate technical candidates. Engineering leaders were too busy to build and maintain effective technical assessments and ensure they didn’t leak to candidates.
We abandoned the traditional interview process and studied the science of interviewing. After extensive research, we improved the existing process of evaluating engineers by incorporating the best practices learned from 100 years of personnel selection research. This way was fairer, more accurate, and helped build more effective teams. In just a few months, our founder built the most diverse and highest-performing team he’d ever had.
In 2023, we founded Gordian Knot, a consultancy dedicated to bringing his experience in applying the science of personnel selection to other organizations to help them achieve the same success our founder had.
